
CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY
Ali Baba Sanchi is a PhD candidate in Cultural Anthropology at UW-Madison. His PhD research focus on the sociocultural manifestations of memories and trauma among victims of violence, Boko Haram’s insurgency movement, banditry, and kidnapping in Northwest Nigeria. Also, he is interested in examining forceful migration, victim’s memories of violence, trauma, PTSD and PTI, cultural healing, and victim’s experiences as internally displaced within the northern region of Nigeria.
Ali Baba Sanchi hails from Nigeria, earned both a Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Linguistics from Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, Nigeria. Also, he holds another Master’s degree in Anthropology and completed a PhD minor in Communication Arts with a focus on cultural documentary from UW-Madison. He is a recipient of several awards and grants, including the Fulbright FLTA award, the Honored Instructor Award, Williams A. Brown Research Grants, Arvin B. Weinstein Grants, and Graduate School Research Grants Awards among others.
